![]() Choose the Topic you would like Al to Address: Question 2. Is it wrong to have sex before marriage, even if you are really in love? It seems like every time you turn on the TV, go to a movie, or open a magazine, you're bombarded with sex. "If it feels good, do it" has become our society's motto, and safe sex supposedly makes it right. Many teens want to be free to experience sex. Most don't understand that there are consequences to pay for this kind of "freedom." The choices you make in this area will absolutely effect you for the rest of your life. It's like the man who wanted to skydive. He decided to be completely free so he jumped out of the plane without a parachute. Soaring completely free without any restraints was great at first, but he paid the price when he landed. The Bible clearly teaches that it is wrong to go "all the way." Every time the word "fornication" appears in God's word, it refers to premarital sex. (1 Thessalonians 4:3; Ephesians 5:3; 1 Corinthians 6:13 & 18; Acts 15:20; Hebrews 13:4). God created sex for marriage only. In marriage, sex is totally awesome. Outside of marriage, sex will destroy and kill -- your mate, yourself, and ultimately your relationship. The consequences of premarital sex really are serious. Here are just a few: It robs you of your peace. First Peter 2:11 says to stay away from "sinful desires that war against your soul." The war that will rage inside you will be a result of the guilt, conviction, and unhappiness that come from crossing God's boundaries. It will damage your relationship with God. Isaiah 59:2 says "Your sin has come between you and your God and your sins have hidden His face from you." Sexual sin causes a person to lose his desire for spiritual things. There is no way to have a genuine interest in prayer, Bible study, witnessing, or worship for very long if you are a slave to sexual sin (2 Peter 2:18-10). It will damage your usefulness to God. 2 Timothy 2:21 says that God will not use a dirty vessel. Only a person who is free from immorality can be useful in the Kingdom. There's no way God will use you if you are not doing what His Word teaches. If your sin becomes public, it may cause others to stumble and dishonor the Lord's name. Even if you repent and get right with God, people will not forget your immorality for a long time. It may damage your relationship with each other. You may think physical involvement will bring you closer together, but it may drive you apart. It can lead to a breakdown in communication. If all you want to do when you are together is be physical, you'll never learn to talk. Second, it can also cause mistrust. Your partner may wonder, "if he/she will do this with me, who else has he/she done it with?" Next, it may lead to a loss of respect. The further you go physically, the more you lose your self-respect and your respect for the other person. You feel guilty, dirty, and unhappy with yourself and your partner for your lack of moral strength. Fourth, it can lead to dishonesty. When a guy has become sexually aroused, he will tell a girl almost anything to get her to lower her standards. If the only time your boyfriend says, "I love you," is when you are physically involved, watch out! You've become nothing more than a "good time." Finally, it will lead to loss of spiritual fellowship with one another. You will not be able to talk about spiritual things. You may become bitter toward the other person and blame them for what has happened. It may cause problems when you marry. Couples who have the most problems after marriage are those who engaged in premarital sex. They're also the ones most likely to engage in extramarital sex later. You risk pregnancy, venereal disease, and AIDS. Need we say more? Read the paper. Watch TV. Go to a clinic. You'll understand. You will bring God's discipline on you. First Thessalonians 4:3-7 says God will judge sexual immorality. God always disciplines those who sin. Sexual immorality can destroy you and your partner. Right now, ask God to help you keep yourself pure. First Corinthians 10:13 says "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." 1 THESSALONIANS 4:3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality. EPHESIANS 5:3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper of God's holy people. 1 CORINTHIANS 6:13, 18 "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food" -- but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. ACTS 15:20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. HEBREWS 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 1 PETER 2:11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. ISAIAH 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. 2 PETER 2:18-19 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity -- for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 2 TIMOTHY 2:21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 1 THESSALONIANS 4:3-7 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: That you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. |
