Question 27.
Is abortion a sin?

Yes. The Bible is very clear that God is the giver of life and the only one qualified to decide when a life will end. Making the decision to end your baby’s life means you have set yourself up to be God. That was the original sin of Adam and Eve--they wanted to be as powerful as God. Abortion involves that sin. The scripture clearly says, "You shall not murder." Abortion is killing babies. That is the second sin involved.

In Psalm 139:13-16 we are told that God knows us and sees us before we are ever born. Each of us, before we are completely formed physically, is a living soul that is special to God.

Those who favor abortion talk about the rights and freedoms of the mother, but what about your baby’s right to life? (See options in Question # 3) Abortion is not an easy way out of an embarrassing or difficult situation. It will leave a lifetime of heartache and scars. Do not break God’s laws-- it will only break you.

Life is precious to God--yours and your baby’s. If you have already had an abortion, then know your baby is in heaven now. God can forgive you and cleanse you of the guilt and shame you feel. Tell a Christian counselor or adult you trust what has happened. Let them help you deal with this heavy burden.

PSALM 139:13-16 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
