Question 6.
I am so busy that it is hard to have quiet time. What should I do?

The older you get, the busier you'll get and the more demanding life will become. This is a battle you will fight for the rest of your life. If you are too busy to spend time alone with God, then you are busier than God intends you to be! We always find time for things we consider important. Maybe you don't understand how important a daily quiet time is. Here are some reasons why it is valuable:

• It's an opportunity to meet with the most powerful and wisest person in all of creation.

• It's a resting place for a hectic life. It's a chance to slow down and quietly get a fresh perspective on things. It's a chance to catch your breath.

• It is an opportunity to release the worries you've been carrying. You can pour out your heart to God and tell him about your problems.

• It's a way to get to know God, not just know about him. The more time you spend with Him, the deeper your relationship will become.

• It's not just a discipline, but its an act of love. It's an opportunity to express your love to your Father, Friend, Savior, and Lord.

Once you understand the benefits of a quiet time, it will be easier to make the time. Decide how, when, and where you are going to have your time alone with God. Then plan for it. Watch out--Satan will do everything he can to trip you up. Don't shoot yourself in the foot either. For example, it isn't nearly as hard to get up in the morning if you go to bed at a decent hour the night before.

It usually takes six weeks of doing something on a daily basis to develop a habit. If you blow it and miss your quiet time, don't get discouraged. Just begin again. Satan would love to rob you of the joy of a quiet time by reminding you how many you have missed. Don't look at God as if he was some heavenly policeman, someone who will punish you for missing your time alone with Him. He is the perfect loving Father who waits for you with open arms (Matthew 6:33).

MATTHEW 6:33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
